GLISS Caffee Questions & Answers

Everything about coffee, its origin, sustainability, and how to order.

GLISS Coffee

We take time for coffee. For selecting the beans, for roasting, and for every detail in between. Each blend is personally curated by coffee sommelier Michael Gliss – with an eye on origin, quality, and what truly matters in the end: enjoyment.

Curated means: Michael accompanies every coffee from the very beginning – from the green bean to the roasted bean.

He samples, compares, and adjusts until everything is just right.

Like a sommelier: smelling, tasting, fine-tuning.

Only then does the coffee go into the bag.

Yes. Our coffees are organically certified and sustainably sourced. We have known some of our coffee farming families for three generations.

Our coffees are gently slow-roasted in an organic roastery. Only the combination of moderate temperature and longer roasting time allows the aromas to develop, bitterness to recede, and acids to break down.

Our beans come from selected growing regions worldwide, including Brazil, India, Mexico & Latin America.

We work exclusively with small farmer cooperatives and attach great importance to fair working conditions, transparency and sustainable cultivation. The partnerships between our roastery and the coffee farming families have in some cases existed for three generations.

Smallholder cooperatives are associations of small-scale coffee producers who market their beans together. This creates better trading conditions, fair prices, and more visibility in international trade. Through cooperatives, farmers gain access to knowledge, training, and shared infrastructure. At the same time, the association strengthens their negotiating position and secures long-term income, quality, and prospects locally.

Sustainability

Because for us, good coffee is always more than just taste. Sustainability is made up of these three pillars: Social. Ecological. Economic. Something is only sustainable if it is fair to people, respects the environment, and works economically for all involved in the long term.

The sustainability process begins with the selection of the beans, continues through cultivation, and only ends with the packaging. We work with organic quality, transparent supply chains, and solutions that combine enjoyment and responsibility. That is precisely why we rely on smallholder cooperatives.

Many cooperatives rely on organic farming methods and protect soils and the environment. They forgo synthetic chemical agents for pest, weed, and fungus control. The entire value chain is transparently documented – from cultivation to bean.

The Rezemo capsule consists of 100% renewable & natural raw materials: regional wood fibers and bio-based binders. It is 100% produced in Germany and is designed to conserve resources while enabling perfect coffee enjoyment. 👉 And this has a measurable impact on the environmental balance.

Compared to conventional aluminum capsules, the Rezemo capsule causes 55% less CO₂ emissions and saves valuable resources. With several million capsules, this means a measurable relief for the environment and climate – without compromising on taste.

In short: every coffee counts.
